Derick and Ryan from Hangzhou

One of the many benefits of travel is meeting new friends.   One of the friends Beryl has made during her China trips is Derick who was a student in Hangzhou in 2008.   He was one of her most enthusiastic students.  He wanted Beryl to recite the Gettysburg Address, apparently assuming that every American teacher has it memorized.   Derick and his friend Ryan came to the US in 2009 to attend the University of Indianapolis.   They finish their degree programs this year [they did their first two years of university in China].  We took them to the Boeing Museum of Flight and to the Pike Place Market where we visited the first Starbucks.   On their own they visited the Seattle Center and other places.

In the top photo Ryan and Derick try on sailor hats in the gift store next to the naval ship Turner Joy that is on display at Bremerton, WA.

On the below they pose in the rain aboard the Turner Joy.
